A series of meals and drinks

Tonight we had a dinner for the team leads at the office; today we also had our Analytics team lunch. For our team lunch, we had organised nothing so we went to a nearby food court, and each of us bought a different meal. There was Mexican, Chinese, Japanese and Indian: a veritable smorgasbord of food. In a way this was better than something more organised; it was casual and everyone got what they wanted. Afterwards, I asked everyone what they wanted to have achieved in the next twelve months. More silence than I had expected.

At dinner tonight, we had a similar question: what was the best and worst points of the year? For me, the worst was probably 5 minutes before Destroyer was delivered, as I sat panicking in a hospital antechamber while various members of staff told me they were praying for me, when I wanted medical professionals, not a procession of clergy. Whereas the high point may have been finding that La Serpiente has empathy; or rather, that my wife found a book at the library that makes La Serpiente cry, rather than Love You Forever, that reliable source of lachrymose parents. I half feel like telling her”look! Now you know how your parents feel!”

La Serpiente had her hair cut for the first time today, an occasion I was dreading, but one which (if the photos can be believed) she enjoyed a lot. I was too drunk tk answer the phone when they called, so at this point I don’t know if she got a crew cut or a few split ends trimmed. Apparently she was asking “which hair?” was getting cut – I hope she wasn’t too surprised.

Not many more sleeps til I fly to New York. Oh, for a quiet evening in or two…
