Month: June 2019

  • A bit more sickness

My wife took the girls to the doctor today – Destroyer was running a fever again – and got her diagnosed with strep. At least that means she has antibiotics now, so hopefully she’ll be better soon (and so will my wife). What we hadn’t realised was that in the US you have to make […]

  • Colder again

My wife’s fever has abated but she’s got a sore elbow and an sore back, so being a gentleman I fled to the office this morning. Well, I had to sort out the rest of my mortgage application so ostensibly I was doing something useful. I came home tonight bearing a blender and a box […]

  • Everyone is sick

The kids were sick last night and spent most of it coughing. I had to cuddle La Serpiente to get her to sleep and I didn’t get to rest myself until 1 am. La Serpiente woke up feeling fine at 5:55 (or "2.22" if you’re my daughter struggling to interpret the digital clock on the […]

  • Father’s Day 2019

Another sunny day today, and La Serpiente woke up at five am. I played Hamster Clan with her and then fell asleep in Destroyer’s bed, waking up at nine to be presented with coffee. As it was Father’s Day we went out to brunch, down by the marina at Lesces on Lake Washington. We met […]

  • More sunshine in Seattle

We went to look at the house we’re buying, to take measurements and figure out how to arrange our furniture within it. La Serpiente and Destroyer, both a bit under the weather, gibbered and capered in the sun, while I planned the enormous shed that I’m going to build in the back garden.

  • Sleepy and overfed

I slept in until 9 this morning, my wife brought me coffee, and then I went to work to eat terrible things. My diet since I got to the US has been pretty bad, but it probably reached its nadir today, when they had ice cream in the cafeteria at lunch time. The flavours were […]

  • Hungover

Last night we had friends (who I met through Blood Bowl, so this nerdy pursuit is good for something) come over, and we drank a couple of bottles of wine, half a bottle of gin and half a bottle of sloe gin, and lots of cheese. Unfortunately, that was between only four of us, which […]

  • A house

Today I bought a house. It’s a nice yellow house opposite a park, with a garden and a basement and all the usual mod cons.

  • Inspections

This evening I went back to a house we looked at before, to figure out if I should buy it or not.

  • Sandy fishy sandwich day

Today we went to Discovery Park to meet friends-of-a-friend and go for a walk. Travelling there was a little arduous because it was the day of the Seattle Rock N Roll Marathon, but we were in an Uber as the race concluded and it was just backed up traffic we had to contend with. Our […]
