Month: March 2020

  • Bedtime thump

Both my daughters woke up in the night and came into my bed. Destroyer first, snoring next to me and making it hard for me to sleep, and La Serpiente second. At about 3am, La Serpiente was amusing herself by playing with my face. I yanked her hand away from me and told her to […]

  • Another day…

My wife fell victim to all the children being out of school; today she tripped over a skateboard ramp some kids had left in the street, banged up her knee and smashed the screen on her phone. It had been about six months since the last time she broke it, which was better than how […]

  • A normal long day

I had a call with my New York team this morning. Unfortunately, it was at 930 am. New York time. So I extricated myself from Destroyer’s clutches at 6 am, went downstairs, had a rather strange call, then went back to bed for an hour before getting up to take Destroyer to preschool.

  • Wake me up and save me

I kept our rental car for a couple of extra days, and that meant that today I could drive Destroyer to her pre school. Although all the schools shut last week, preschools with smaller class sizes are OK, as far as the Washington state authorities are concerned. It was a cold, crisp day, the sky […]

  • Trails and ears

After being cooped up yesterday, I wanted to get the girls out of the house, so we drove over to Bridle Trails in Redmond. I had made the mistake of thinking it was Bridal Trails, but instead this park, as the name suggests, was an arboreal gem, filled with horseshit. Everywhere we walked, for an […]

  • Wheels off

Today the weather started gloomy and overcast, and very, very cold. We went out to the park, returned, and then watched an Aardman animation, Farmageddon, with the girls, a lovely romp with aliens and sheep and such.

  • A new toy

I picked up another rental car today, and they upsold me from a regular sized car to a Dodge Charger, because it was only five dollars more. And then it turned out that because I’ve rented so many cars from Enterprise, I got the upgrade for zero dollars instead.

  • Girl, interrupting

Last night La Serpiente took my phone away from me and hid it in her bed, and I was so tired I fell asleep, and when I woke up in a darkened room I didn’t want to turn on the lights to wake her up.

  • Closing time

The schools in Seattle all closed today for two weeks. And there’s a flight ban from Europe to the US all of a sudden, although not from the UK, where there’s also been a death from the corona virus. So this seems to be moving into a new phase. I wonder if, in a few […]

  • Another day of working from home

Today I spent a lot of the time on video conferencing, which is a smarmy way of saying I was paid to stay at home and watch TV. More industriousness tomorrow.
