  • Working from home

Last night I fetched a monitor and persuaded a friend to move our very heavy IKEA table upstairs, and today I set myself up with my workstation in the closet at the back of our house. It was surprisingly productive for ne: the kids were at school so it was much quieter than if I’d […]

  • Not so lazy Sunday

This morning I woke up hugging La Serpiente, which was a nice way to start the day, preferable to being woken up by La Serpiente talking incessantly at me. She really wanted to cycle to the local coffee shop on 80th, but as I had to rush to Bellevue I forced her to go in […]

  • Friday is the end of the weak

I woke up incredibly sore today – it turns out swimming does tire your shoulders out, and so I was flummoxed most of the day. Working from home is hard: without the routine of leaving the house and going somewhere else it’s hard to get in the right frame of mind. I only really hit […]

  • Night swimming

I mucked about and played a few games of Blood Bowl tonight, then finally, after 12pm, took myself off to the pool for a swim.

(In a tribute to the three bears, porridge in San Francisco is too hot, just the right temperature in Seattle, […]

  • Back to San Francisco

I have no great love for San Francisco; I find it a cold, hard place with dirty streets, angry people and faded hippies. But I travel here for work, and at least this time I’m not in a 500-dollar-a-night hovel with a fridge in the centre of the room and no food service except take […]

  • Return to Poo Poo Point

On the spur of the moment, I hired a car yesterday, so today we drove the kids up to Poo Poo Point. The weather was lovely, although a little cold, and it was easy to get the children moving. We stopped for a coffee at Monkey Grind or some similar silly name, then hit the […]

  • Wearing the kids out

This morning La Serpiente rode her bike up to the coffee shop on 80th, and her sister accompanied her, riding on the back of my bike. Once again, this was ten blocks of relentless uphill, and from time to time she’d want to rest, but I pressed her to carry on until we got to […]
