Books to read in 2019

Twelve serious books about leadership, management and business

The Progress Principle: Using Small Wins to Ignite Joy, Engagement, and Creativity at Work

Influence: The Psychology of Persuasion

Made To Stick: Why some ideas take hold and others come unstuck

Thinking, Fast and Slow

Quiet

Creativity, Inc This is about Pixar. I think I saw the author read from it a year ago and he had the dullest delivery I’ve witnessed in eons, but people talk highly about this, so let’s see what happens.

Bad Blood All the fun of the rise and fall of Theranos, the innovative (if fraud is innovative) blood testing company.

Give & Take

The Fearless Organization

To Sell Is Human

Path Between The Seas – apparently this is a good history of the Panama Canal, but it’s not available electronically, so let’s see if we can get this or not.

Twelve less serious books

The Labyrinth Index – the latest in Charles Stross’ Laundry series, again signed by the author to commemorate our wedding anniversary. This is probably quite an inappropriate way to celebrate a wedding, given the content, but then we met through a love of books, so hey ho. [read it cover to cover in one day of travel on planes and sitting in my hotel room, 22nd March]

Fire And Fury – which is going to be either a fun, or a hair-raising read. One way or another that should be interesting.

Rogue Male – spotted this thriller classic in Waterstones this week and think it might be worth a punt.

Fulgrim – a not particularly enjoyable (so far) Games Workshop Space Marine romp about evil snake things and corrupted heroes. But I got it for free with four other books I read in 2018… [finished it on the 10th of January]

Night At Camp David, which has a wonderful (if slightly provocative) cover – a Christmas present this year.

Fear – Our Ultimate Challenge, another Christmas present. Which again is good, because it’s another book that hadn’t even crossed my radar, so there should be some surprises there.

There’s ten more less-serious books to add to this list (looking for recommendations, not sure if the 2018 Viz Annual will count or that’s just a lot of comics…)
