Leonard and Hungry Paul

This was a book I found the last time I took the girls to the bookshop. It was a finalist in the book of the year awards in 2019, and it’s a strange candidate for that; it’s 250 pages of not very much happening.
It wasn’t unpleasant; it was a book I enjoyed a lot, because it was a bunch of nice, middle class people without any major dramas or challenges to deal with. Nothing much really happens, a couple get married, and that’s about it.

The dialogue wasn’t great – everyone speaks a bit too wordily – so perhaps it was good that somebody became a spokesperson for the association of mime artists.

Compared to the other things I’ve read lately, where terrible things happen to people, or they’re just incredibly sad, it was nice for things just to be nice. And so on and on …
