Running a two day offsite rather took it out of me this week, and today I was still pretty worn out. I’m about ten minutes from filing my US tax return (although that’s been true for about three weeks now) and I have to make a start on printing prizes for my next tournament, and scheduling all the bills I need to pay… but I’m also in the kind of dull mental state where looking at blank walls is about all the intellectual effort I can make. I’m hoping that when I make it through this week, I can recover a bit and start being able to think again.
Some of this is about establishing more robust systems; in particular, I need to simplify the process of paying off credit cards. I have the money, so it’s a matter of making sure the payment is sent on the right day, but the extra complexity of trying to arbitrage the interest free period of a credit card against the interest I’ll incur on my HELOC if I pay off the card before it’s due is a little bit of work. Not much, and over a year that’s savings of several thousand dollars, but it relies on me looking at spreadsheets, and I need to remove the human component by being slightly more organized now, so Future Me can be less organized. I suppose the trade off right now is that Future Me needs to be a bit more organized as Present Me is too tired. Talk about borrowing against your future…
Tomorrow is also my last day in the office for most of a week, as my visitors will be going back to Singapore, and while I’m happy to work remotely in general, it’s rude to have people fly in and then avoid them. But the extra mental load of the office environment vs my now perfected home office is another cost to bear, at least in the short term…
