Twin Falls

I woke up early this morning to a message from a friend, asking if La Serpiente and Destroyer wanted to go for a hike with her son. Although it was looking a bit wet outside, this neatly solved the problem of figuring out what to do with the girls today, so I frantically pulled together snacks and warm clothes for them, and twenty minutes later we were in a car heading out to Issaquah.
The route we took, Twin Falls, has a couple of steep climbs, but was mostly fairly easy, and so the children managed to get through three miles of hiking with little complaint. I had fed them cookies and doughnuts to placate any rage, which certainly helped. Destroyer ran and ran and ran, while La Serpiente insisted on holding my hand for most of the hike.

I had my first salmonberry (like a very tart raspberry) while trying to persuade the girls not to strip the bushes of every berry they saw, and when we’d finished hiking (about two hours later) we stopped in North Bend for burgers and fries.

Then a quick drive home, and the kids played together all afternoon before getting terrified by How To Train Your Dragon 2. I was sleepy enough, then the girls passed out without complaint. So a good day.
