2 weeks off

My parents and my sister came to stay with us two weeks ago, and I’m surprised how that managed to disrupt writing my blog entirely, but I suppose up ending my daily routine, and having Spring Break, and freaking out about the tax filing deadline as well, were a few distractions.

Anyway, today was their last day in town and finally the sun came out, so we went down to the Ballard Locks, only to find the fish ladders closed for renovation. At least there were other animals in abundance- a flock of heron are roosting in a nearby tree, there were at least three harbour seals, cormorants and eagles around, as well as boats coming through the locks to entertain us.

The afternoon could never be as exciting, but I transported everyone and their luggage to the airport and then got lost on the way home, driving around the building site at the end of the West Seattle Bridge innumerable times.

And now, the house is emptier and quieter again, and we don’t get to play backgammon multiple times every night. It was so lovely to see everyone, my only regret is that it took so long; three and a half years apart is a very long time…
