On Tuesdays and Thursdays La Serpiente goes to school early. This is hard for me as I get up at 6:30 in order to have time to rouse her, feed her, get her dressed and walk to school.
It’s much harder when she comes into our bedroom at 1am and sits on my head.
Grumpily, I told her to go back to bed, and a shadowy shape wandered off, then came back a moment later, arms above its head like some kind of strange dancer, asking me to cuddle her. I knew I wouldn’t get any sleep if I didn’t acquiesce, so I left my bed (and my wife and my younger daughter) and went to sleep on the bunk bed with La Serpiente.
She then clutched at me the entire night so I had precious little sleep until my alarm went off, at which point she refused to get out of bed. Between that and Destroyer being sick, we didn’t have a very good start to the day, and I made it a little bit worse by giving up coffee today.
Well, I had three double espressos yesterday and didn’t feel very well afterwards, so something had to be done. I’m not sure that was the right thing though; I spent the day blundering about, confused and shocked by the world.
When I got home, the girls were glad to see me, and scampered around. We had a work colleague visit for dinner, so everyone got pizza, La Serpiente and Destroyer both read books to our guest (I think Destroyer has memorised a book so she can pretend to read it) and then bedtime was rapid.
Perbaps I’ll hide on the sofa tonight to get a proper bit of sleep…
