Burning the candle at both ends

I went for a run at 9:45 this evening, after spending most of an hour waiting for my daughter to sleep, then getting on a phone call with London. Things are getting more nocturnal than necessary with my life. Or rather, they would be if I wasn’t awake all day as well.

Tonight I tried to spice up our daughter’s bedtime story with discussion of the existential predicate. She didn’t like that so much, and demanded to be put in her cot earlier. So it turns out that just as analytical philosophy made me fall asleep as a student, it works just as well for another generation. Ah, the consolations of philosophy indeed.

My run this evening was very short. I found it difficult, but my heart rate hardly got above 140, which is a good indication that I’m tired. As you would expect, after running like crazy last weekend after a long period without enough exercise. So I stopped after ten minutes and went to buy my wife some ice cream.

This is not a civilized country. The ice cream parlour was closed by the time I got there. If you can’t purchase ice cream at ten o’clock at night then I don’t know what can be done to solve things. I went home, wept bitter tears, had a cheese sandwich, went to bed.

This is my life. This is every cheese filled day of it.

  1. You can only just about get chips at 10 o’clock where we are. If you want a sweet, it will have to be a deep fried something.
