Pull ups and Cyberpunk

Today I did 24 pull ups, just as the schedule demanded. I have 196 left to do in the next seven days. This is a lot better than last year, probably because I have a chin up bar installed next to my bed, rather than somewhere in the office, and also because I’ve been a little bit more careful and tried to avoid injury.
It’s not as impressive as it first sounds, because that’s not 24 pull ups in one go; rather, I’ll do a few, then recover (possibly for a few hours) and then do some more. The most I’ve done in one go is 8 (today) but that’s more than I did in the first three days of the month combined. My goal for February is to drop the volume back a bit (to twenty per day) but do those in two sets of ten, and when I can reliably do that, build up to two sets of fifteen.

The only adverse effect so far has been calluses. Calluses like you wouldn’t believe, huge yellowy orange lumps on almost every joint of my fingers. I’m hoping that when I drop the volume a bit in February, they will shrink a little; they don’t hurt, but I’m worried that with suck swellings they’re more vulnerable to tearing when I’m climbing. I need small, tough calluses, not enormous ones. All in all, I’m proud I have managed to stick at least one of my resolutions this far. Need to read some more books now…

I wore my new coat today, and it was every bit as warm as I’d wanted. A down coat with a silver lining and a furry hood is clearly a great invention.

After I put the girls to bed, I played Cyberpunk for three hours. The game has been slammed for being riddled with bugs, but so far I’ve not suffered any. I’ve suffered from not figuring out how to play it properly (it took me three days to fight my way out of a meat processing plant, the easy, starter mission (and I’m playing on easy mode, rather than BRUTAL CHALLENGE or whatever the cool kids do). Maybe I’ll finish it before the end of the century…

I didn’t paint any more of my Blood Bowl models today. There’s a dilemma – do I spend my time on videogames and instant gratification, or the long and slow process of prepping models for a tournament in September I may or may not be able to attend? We’ll have to see…
